What is Riopan and what is it used for?
Riopan contains the active ingredient magaldrate and binds excess stomach acid. An excessive acid binding, which would lead to increased acid secretion in the stomach, is avoided.

The natural digestive function is maintained, and bile acids that in some cases flow back into the stomach are bound. The effect of Riopan usually lasts several hours.

Riopan is used for heartburn and acid reflux.

Children and adolescents under 18 years of age may only take Riopan on medical prescription.

If you do not feel better or even worse after 14 days, consult your doctor.

How to take Riopan?
Always take this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or exactly as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist.

Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is:
For minor stomach complaints (e.g., heartburn, acid reflux), take 1 sachet (= 10 ml) as needed.

Complaints usually occur after eating or at night (when lying down), so the usual dose is 1 sachet (= 10 ml) one hour after main meals or before bedtime (= 4 times daily).

You should not take more than 4 sachets daily (corresponds to 6400 mg magaldrate).

In some cases, taking one dose may provide relief from symptoms. Discontinue use when symptoms subside.

Duration of treatment:
You can stop taking it when the symptoms subside.

Riopan should not be taken for more than 14 consecutive days. Consult your doctor if your symptoms do not subside within this period, last longer than 14 days, get worse, or if additional symptoms occur.

He will arrange for a diagnostic evaluation to rule out other diseases.

Maximum daily dose:
You should not take more than 4 sachets daily (corresponds to 6400 mg magaldrate).

Use in kidney dysfunction:
In severe kidney dysfunction, long-term and higher-dose use should only be carried out under medical supervision with regular aluminum and magnesium blood level determinations, due to the risk of chronic aluminum poisoning.

Use in children and adolescents:
There is insufficient information for children under 12 years of age, so they should not take Riopan. In adolescents aged 12 to 18 years, Riopan should only be used on explicit medical prescription.

If you have taken more Riopan than you should
Acute poisoning symptoms with Riopan are not known.

If you forget to take Riopan
Do not take a double dose if you have forgotten the previous dose. Take the next dose when needed.

If you stop taking Riopan
You can stop taking it at any time when the symptoms subside.

What Riopan contains

• The active ingredient is: Magaldrate. 1 sachet of 10 ml contains 1600 mg magaldrate, anhydrous.
• The other ingredients are: Sodium cyclamate, silver sulfate, chlorhexidine digluconate solution, acacia gum, hypromellose, simethicone, maltol, caramel flavor, cream flavor, purified water.
