octenisept® - Wound and Mucous Membrane Antiseptic
Product Details & Mandatory Information
Octenisept solution for wound and mucous membrane disinfection
Set consisting of:
- 2x Octenisept solution for wound and mucous membrane disinfection
Active ingredients:
Octenidine dihydrochloride, 2-phenoxyethanol
What is Octenisept and what is it used for?
Octenisept is a disinfectant for external use and for use on mucous membranes. Octenidine has a comprehensive germicidal effect. It is effective against bacteria, fungi and certain viruses.
The development of resistance to octenidine by infectious agents is not to be feared due to its mode of action.
Areas of application:
For repeated, temporary antiseptic treatment of mucous membranes and transitional epithelium before surgical procedures.
In the oral cavity, e.g. before tooth extractions or curettage (surgical removal of tissue), in the urogenital tract, e.g. before hysterectomies (surgical removal of the uterus) and in the rectal area (e.g. before sclerotherapy of hemorrhoids).
In the vaginal area by means of an applicator spray head for uncomplicated bacterial infections and infections caused by fungi.
For temporary wound and suture care. For temporary antiseptic treatment of infected skin wounds.
Octenisept can be used in adults and children of all ages. Its safety and efficacy have also been demonstrated in premature infants from the 24th week of gestation.
If no improvement is seen after several applications, or if the condition worsens, consult your doctor.
How to use Octenisept?
Always use the medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or exactly as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist or nurse.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
For use on the (mucous) skin.
Apply to the areas to be disinfected.
For the 50 ml pack size, spray onto the areas to be disinfected. If necessary, especially in the oral cavity, rinsing can also be performed. Wet the areas to be disinfected completely and allow to act for 1 minute.
When rinsing the oral cavity, rinse intensively with approx. 20 ml of Octenisept for 20 seconds and allow an additional contact time of one minute.
Octenisept is used undiluted. The solution is not suitable for ingestion.
For skin disinfection (e.g. before a caesarean section), an exposure time of 2 minutes for the undiluted preparation must be observed.
The exposure time must always be adhered to and must not be shortened by premature drying.
For vaginal use, press the spray cap of the applicator ten times in a row, see "Application of the applicator spray head".
After completing vaginal therapy with Octenisept, it is recommended to rebuild the vaginal flora using lactobacilli-containing vaginal capsules to promote the restoration of the natural bacterial balance.
Use in children and adolescents
The application is identical in children, adolescents and adults.
If you have used more Octenisept than you should
There is no information on overdoses. However, an overdose is very unlikely with an externally applied medicine.
