Free radicals can be produced in the body through various metabolic processes, such as energy production. A certain level of exposure is therefore normal.

However, increased exposure, for example due to external influences, can lead to oxidative stress. This includes not only smoking, medication, or environmental toxins, but also UV radiation, ozone exposure, stress, and physical activity. A one-sided diet and the aging process are also associated with oxidative stress.

Antioxidants protect against free radicals, including certain vitamins and trace elements. Some endogenous substances and enzymes also play an important role in this system. Radical scavengers support and regenerate each other, which is why a combination is beneficial.

• Vitamin C and E, zinc, and selenium provide cellular protection against oxidative stress.
  
• Vitamins A and C, as well as zinc and selenium, support the normal function of the immune system.
  
• The patented melon juice concentrate Extramel® has a high content of superoxide dismutase (SOD). SOD includes enzymes that catalyze the conversion of superoxide ions.
