What is Lutamax?
Lutamax is a special dietary supplement for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Its intake is recommended in all phases of AMD, including the late stages. Lutamax contains the essential nutrient lutein. In humans, lutein is deposited in the photoreceptor cells of the retina. There, it filters the particularly energy-rich blue light, thereby protecting the photoreceptor cells from potential light damage. Lutein thus functions as a "natural pair of sunglasses" for the eye.
Ingredients
Thistle oil, gelatin, vegetable lutein-zeaxanthin extract, glycerin, vitamin E, coloring agent: riboflavin, iron oxide.

Recommended intake:
Initial intake: During the first 3–6 months of treatment, the daily intake of 1 capsule of Lutamax 20mg is recommended. The higher initial intake allows for the replenishment of lutein and zeaxanthin stores and the increase of blood levels. Higher blood levels of these substances generally also lead to increased incorporation of these nutrients into the eyes. For older age (over 70 years) or higher body weight (Body Mass Index over 30), it is recommended to take the higher dosage for a longer period (for at least 6 months).
Continued intake:
After the first 3–6 months, the intake of 1 capsule of Lutamax 10mg daily is recommended to maintain a continuous supply of lutein, zeaxanthin, and omega-3 fatty acids.
Note:
A continuous, long-term intake of Lutamax is important. If the intake of lutein is stopped, the values in the retina will significantly decrease again within a few weeks. Only with
continuous intake can the protective effect of lutein for the eye fully unfold.
Important notes
Lutamax 20mg/ 10mg is a supplementary balanced diet for the dietary treatment of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). The products are to be used on medical recommendation and under medical supervision.
Dietary purpose of Lutamax:
Lutamax serves as a supplementary balanced diet for special medical purposes (balanced diet) for the dietary treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in all phases of the disease.
Age-related Macular Degeneration:
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a disease that occurs frequently from the age of 60. In the early stage of the disease, vision is blurred. This loss of vision gradually worsens over several years.
years. Eventually, vision is lost in the center of the visual field. Reading or simple household tasks become much more difficult as a result. Especially in old age, this means
a significant reduction in quality of life. AMD is one of the most common causes of blindness in Europe. The cause of AMD is damage to the photoreceptor cells, especially in the central area of the retina ("macula lutea"), the place of sharpest vision. The combination of high-energy light radiation and oxygen causes damage to various substances in the retina. The result is deposits of harmful substances ("drusen"), which impair the supply of nutrients to the photoreceptor cells and ultimately lead to their death. A particularly rapid and significant loss of vision occurs with the onset of bleeding ("wet form of AMD").
Properties of Lutein
Lutein is a plant substance that the body cannot produce itself. Unfortunately, we only absorb very small amounts of lutein through food. Lutein has the property of filtering the blue part of the light spectrum particularly efficiently (up to 80%). As a result, this part of the light no longer reaches the photoreceptor cells. This is important because blue light, due to its short wavelength, has very high energy and is therefore potentially particularly dangerous for the eye. Lutein also has a strong antioxidant effect. In addition, it reduces light scattering ("chromatic
aberration"). This effect allows edges and outlines to be seen more sharply.
