What is HEXORAL and what is it used for?
Hexetidine, the active ingredient in Hexoral, is effective against a variety of bacteria that cause mouth and throat infections. Fungal infections in the mouth and throat, especially thrush, are also successfully treated with Hexoral.
Hexoral is suitable for short-term supportive therapy of
- Inflammation in the mouth and throat without fever
- Sore throat in mild, non-febrile colds
- Gingivitis, bleeding gums, pressure sores in denture wearers
- Stomatitis and minor injuries in the mouth area
In the following cases, where fever may occur, Hexoral should only be used under medical supervision:
- Tonsillitis, pharyngitis, angina
- Inflammation of the gums or oral mucosa, aphthae (painful inflamed areas in the gums, oral cavity or on the tongue)
- Preventive treatment and therapy of infections after surgical procedures (e.g. tooth extraction or tonsillectomy)
- Treatment of fungal infections, especially thrush
- Combating bad breath in severe diseases of the mouth and throat (e.g. tumors)
- Oral hygiene in severe general illnesses
How to use HEXORAL?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as agreed with your doctor, dentist or pharmacist. If you are unsure, please ask your doctor, dentist or pharmacist.
Adults and children aged 6 years and older (if they are able to gargle without swallowing) use Hexoral as follows:
In the morning and evening, rinse the mouth or gargle the throat with 1 tablespoon of undiluted Hexoral solution for about ½ minute. For individual inflamed areas, the solution can also be applied directly with swabs. Swallowing the solution should be avoided.
Younger children aged 3 to 6 years may only be treated with Hexoral under medical supervision. Dab the affected areas morning and evening after meals with a cotton swab soaked in Hexoral (do not wipe or rub).
Elderly patients
There are no special dosage recommendations for elderly patients. Unless otherwise prescribed by the dentist or doctor, the adult dosage applies.
Method of application
For rinsing or gargling
Hexoral is usually used undiluted after meals. To ensure the effect, you should not eat or drink anything for the following minutes.
For local treatment in the mouth, Hexoral can also be applied to the affected areas with cotton swabs or swabs.
Hexoral - gargle solution is intended exclusively for use in the mouth and throat and must not be swallowed. Therefore, Hexoral should only be used if the patient can suppress the swallowing reflex and is able to spit out the solution after gargling or rinsing.
Hexoral must not be combined with other medicines and must always be used undiluted.
Duration of use
Hexoral should not be used for more than 10 days without medical or dental consultation. The total duration of treatment will be determined by the treating doctor or dentist.
If symptoms persist after 15 days of treatment, a doctor or dentist should be consulted again.
What does HEXORAL contain?
The active ingredient is: Hexetidine (100.0 mg in 100 ml solution)
The other ingredients are:
purified water, ethanol 96%, polysorbate 60, citric acid monohydrate, saccharin sodium (22.0 mg), levomenthol, azorubine (E 122), eucalyptus oil, sodium calcium edetate, sodium hydroxide.
