Active ingredient: Alginate is derived from the seaweed Laminaria hyperborea. Gaviscon is iodine-free.​

GAVISCON®Liquid Sachets Mint Suspension is used for the treatment of symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux such as acid reflux, heartburn and indigestion, e.g. after meals or during pregnancy.​

Gaviscon is free of sugar, lactose, gluten and colorants and can be taken by diabetics. GAVISCON® Liquid Sachets Mint Suspension is a cream-colored suspension with mint taste and smell. Gaviscon Liquid Mint belongs to the drug group of so-called "reflux suppressants", which form a protective layer over the stomach contents for up to 4 hours, thereby preventing stomach acid from rising from the stomach into the esophagus and causing pain and discomfort there.

Application: Adults and adolescents from 12 years of age take a single dose of 48 x 10 ml in practical dosing sachets after meals or before bedtime. The suspension can be squeezed directly into the mouth or placed on a teaspoon. Dispose of the remaining sachet contents promptly. GAVISCON®Liquid Sachets Mint Suspension should not be taken for longer than 7 days without medical advice, as other serious conditions may also be present with heartburn. For prolonged use, it should be medically clarified that there is no other underlying condition requiring treatment.​

Compatibility and safety in pregnancy ​

Gaviscon Liquid Sachets is suitable for use throughout pregnancy from the 1st to the 9th month and during lactation. The active ingredient alginate is not absorbed into the bloodstream, but is excreted via the intestine after a certain time.​

What is an alginate? ​
​
Alginate, the main active ingredient of Gaviscon, is extracted from the brown algae "Laminaria hyperborea" and is purely herbal. The active principle works on a physical basis: when it comes into contact with stomach acid, alginate forms a protective barrier, including carbon dioxide, which, similar to an air mattress, lies on the liquid stomach contents and thus, like a lid, prevents the reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus. After a while, the protective film slowly dissolves and is excreted without being absorbed into the bloodstream. This results in a very low risk of side effects.
