What is Gaviscon Liquid forte Anise and what is it used for?

Gaviscon Liquid forte Anise belongs to the group of medicines called "reflux suppressants"

This product forms a protective layer that floats on top of the stomach contents. This layer prevents reflux and keeps stomach contents from returning to the esophagus,
to relieve the symptoms of heartburn and acid-related indigestion.

This medicine is used for the treatment of symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux such as acid regurgitation, heartburn and indigestion (associated with reflux), for example after meals, during pregnancy or in patients with symptoms associated with oesophagitis due to reflux.

If you do not feel better or even worse after 7 days, contact your doctor.

How to take Gaviscon Liquid forte Anise

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Check that the cap seal is intact before using this product for the first time.

Shake well before use.

The recommended dose is:

Adults, including elderly patients and children from 12 years of age, 5 – 10 ml (1 or 2 spoons of 5 ml) after meals and before bedtime (up to 4 times a day).

Use in children and adolescents
Children under 12 years of age: Use only on medical advice.

If you have taken more Gaviscon Liquid forte Anise than you should

If you have taken too much of this product, you may feel bloated or have lower abdominal discomfort. It is unlikely to harm you.
If these symptoms persist, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Consult your doctor if symptoms persist for more than 7 days.

If you forget to take Gaviscon Liquid forte Anise

Do not take a double dose if you have forgotten the previous dose.

If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

What side effects are possible?

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Occasionally (may affect up to 1 in 100 people treated): diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting.

Very rarely (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people treated), allergic reactions to the ingredients may occur. Symptoms may include skin rash, itching, shortness of breath, dizziness or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat. If you notice these side effects, stop taking the medicine and ask your doctor for advice.

Contents of the pack and other information

What Gaviscon Liquid forte Anise contains

10 ml of the suspension contains 1,000 mg sodium alginate and 200 mg potassium hydrogen carbonate as active ingredients.

The other ingredients are calcium carbonate, carbomer, methyl-4-hydroxybenzoate and propyl-4-hydroxybenzoate, saccharin sodium, sodium hydroxide, anise flavour from fennel and purified water.

Gaviscon contains no sugar or gluten.

What Gaviscon Liquid forte Anise looks like and contents of the pack

Gaviscon Liquid forte Anise is a cream-coloured, viscous oral suspension.

Brown glass bottles with 80, 100, 125, 140, 150, 180, 200, 250, 300, 400, 500, 560 or 600 ml

suspension or

Brown glass bottles, with a measuring cup with a scale of 5, 10, 15 and 20 ml or with a measuring spoon with a scale of 2.5 and 5 ml, with 80, 100, 125, 140, 150, 180, 200, 250, 300, 400, 500, 560 or 600 ml suspension.

Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
