Further product information on Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules
Gaspan®: Herbal and effective and well-tolerated for digestive problems (flatulence, feeling of fullness, abdominal cramps) with high-dose caraway & peppermint oil

What are Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules and what are they used for?
Gaspan® is an herbal medicine that works against gastrointestinal complaints with high-dose medicinal oil of caraway and peppermint. Caraway and peppermint are two outstanding medicinal plants for digestive complaints. The proven combination of the medicinal oils of both medicinal plants in Gaspan® has been impressively demonstrated in numerous studies. The herbal medicine, which is characterised by its good tolerability, is thus demonstrably suitable
- for the symptomatic treatment of digestive problems
- especially for the relief of mild, digestion-related abdominal cramps
- against flatulence
- for the relief of feelings of fullness
- against abdominal pain due to gastrointestinal complaints
Special features of Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules
The gastro-resistant soft capsules Gaspan® are characterised by various advantages in the field of herbal medicines for digestive complaints. Of particular note is the particularly high concentration of the herbal medicinal oil, which is extracted from both caraway and peppermint and combined in an ideal combination into an herbal medicine. For comparison: The effect of the high-dose medicinal oil is approximately equivalent to the effect of around 11 litres of peppermint and caraway tea – i.e. the equivalent of consuming 73 cups daily.
Against flatulence, feelings of fullness and abdominal pain
The high-dose caraway medicinal oil inhibits gas formation and has a deflating effect, which counteracts flatulence, feelings of fullness and flatulence-related abdominal pain. The medicinal peppermint oil also has pain-relieving and antispasmodic effects. Thanks to the unique medicinal oil combination in Gaspan®, pressure and feelings of fullness as well as pain and cramps can be significantly reduced with just two capsules daily. With long-term use, which is possible due to the good tolerability, the effect also increases.

Gentle action in the intestine
Another special feature of Gaspan® is the gastro-resistance of the soft capsule. This ensures that the herbal active ingredients reach the intestine gently, where they can exert their repeatedly demonstrated effect on digestive complaints. Relief of the corresponding complaints can usually be expected within two to four weeks when taking Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules. Therapy with Gaspan® can be extended to up to three months if necessary.

How are Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules used?
Ideally, the capsules should be taken once in the morning and once at midday daily. Although the soft capsules can be taken independently of meals, it is important to wait at least half an hour after taking them before consuming the next meal. Otherwise, if food is consumed at the same time, the coating of the gastro-resistant capsule could dissolve prematurely. It is therefore also essential to swallow the capsules whole with a sufficient amount of water and not to chew Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules. Similarly, the soft capsules should neither be divided nor crushed. This is important to prevent the active ingredient from being released prematurely and to prevent local irritation in the mouth and oesophagus.
Dosage of Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules
Adolescents over 12 years of age and adults should adhere to the recommended daily dose of Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules: This is one gastro-resistant soft capsule twice a day (preferably in the morning and at midday).
Other notes on Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules
For safe use of Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules, please pay attention to the following points:
- If your gastrointestinal complaints have not significantly improved after two weeks despite taking Gaspan® or even worsen, it is essential to have your symptoms clarified by a doctor.
- Medical advice should also always be sought immediately if unexplained abdominal pain is accompanied by symptoms such as fever, jaundice, vomiting or blood in the stool.
- There are currently insufficient data on dosage instructions for impaired renal and/or hepatic function and regarding the use of Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules in children aged 8 to 11 years.
- However, the medicinal product must not be taken by children under 8 years of age, as it contains the substances pulegone and methofuran in an amount that could potentially exceed the safe use limit for children of this age.
- There are also insufficient data on the use of Gaspan® during pregnancy. The use of gastro-resistant soft capsules is therefore not recommended for pregnant women.
- Gaspan® should also not be used during breastfeeding. The reason for this is that a substance contained in peppermint oil can pass into breast milk, which means that a risk to the baby cannot be excluded.
- It is possible that undesirable effects may occur when taking Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules, the frequency of which is not known. These include, for example, gastrointestinal disorders, heartburn, nausea, belching or burning around the anus.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders as well as immune system disorders have also been reported. Swelling, itching or redness as a result of an allergic reaction have also been observed with unknown frequency. - If you are taking medicines to reduce stomach acid such as H2-antihistamines, proton pump inhibitors or antacids, you should take Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules at least two hours before and never at the same time. Otherwise, the mentioned medicines can lead to premature dissolution of the gastro-resistant capsule coating and cause corresponding complaints (belching, stomach irritation) or reduce the effect.
- The use of Gaspan®-90mg/50mg soft capsules should be discontinued if the symptoms worsen in individuals suffering from heartburn or a hiatal hernia.
- If you are allergic to caraway oil, menthol, peppermint oil or any of the ingredients (see "Excipients") of Gaspan®, you must not take the medicine. The same applies to patients with a lack of stomach acid, gall bladder diseases (e.g. gallstones) or inflammatory biliary tract and liver diseases.
