elmex® Dental Gel

What is elmex® dental gel and what is it used for?
elmex® dental gel is used for local fluoridation of tooth enamel (e.g., by brushing with a toothbrush or by application by the dentist with a gel carrier).

The aminofluorides olaflur and dectaflur in elmex® dental gel are characterized by a high binding capacity to tooth enamel. Studies have shown that fluoride can be incorporated and minerals newly formed, both under laboratory conditions and in vivo.

This increases the strength of the tooth enamel. elmex® dental gel reduces the metabolism of bacteria that cause plaque. Thus, elmex® dental gel has a caries-preventive effect and promotes new mineral formation in existing tooth enamel damage.

For home use:

• Treatment of incipient enamel caries in combination with dietary counseling and oral hygiene.
• Surface mineralization of sensitive tooth necks.

In dental practice:

• Treatment of enamel decalcification under removable splints, partial dentures, and devices for correcting malocclusions.
• Re-fluoridation of ground enamel surfaces
• during selective grinding and in case of tooth enamel injuries.

How to use elmex® dental gel?
For dental use.

For home use:
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as instructed by your (dental) doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, ask your (dental) doctor or pharmacist.

Apply about 1 cm of elmex® dental gel to the toothbrush once a week and clean the teeth. Rinse briefly after 2 to 3 minutes. The entire application time (brushing and exposure time) should not exceed 5 minutes. Best used before bedtime.

For optimal effect, nothing should be eaten or drunk for 15 to 30 minutes after application. More frequent use is determined by the dentist. For children, care should be taken that they do not swallow while brushing. elmex® dental gel should only be used when they are able to spit out the foam.

In dental practice:
The application is about twice a year or more often in patients with a high risk of caries. Sufficient contact time of the dental gel with the teeth (at least 2 to 4 minutes) must be ensured.
However, this should not exceed 5 minutes. Rinse after use.

elmex® dental gel can be applied with a cotton swab, fingertip, or a rotating brush. Application with a suitable gel carrier such as a miniplast splint or a tray applicator is particularly effective. Due to the risk of overdose, the dental gel should only be used with a gel carrier from the age of 8.

If you have used more elmex® dental gel than recommended:
In case of accidental ingestion of larger quantities of the medicine, a doctor should be consulted.

What elmex® dental gel contains:
The active ingredients are: Olaflur, Dectaflur, Sodium Fluoride. 100 g contain 3.032 g Olaflur, 0.287 g Dectaflur and 2.210 g Sodium Fluoride.

The other ingredients are:
Propylene Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Saccharin, p-Menthan-3-one, Apple Flavor, Banana Flavor, Peppermint Flavor, Spearmint Oil, Purified Water.

Total fluoride content:
1.25% (Fluoride); 1 gel strip of 1 cm length = 0.2 g.
