What is Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free and what is it used for?

Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free is a surface-active oral and pharyngeal antiseptic (disinfectant) with a broad spectrum of action and long-lasting effect against bacterial pathogens and a somewhat weaker activity against fungal diseases.
Rinsing with Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free effectively treats bacterial infections in the mouth and throat.

Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free is used for the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections in the mouth and throat and is indicated for:

• reducing and preventing bacterial dental plaque;
• treating simple to purulent gum inflammation (gingivitis);
• treating or preventing infectiously caused periodontal diseases and their sequelae (periodontopathies);
• tonsillitis, angina, lateral pharyngitis, pharyngeal mucous membrane inflammation (pharyngitis);
• injuries as well as before and after surgical interventions in the mouth and throat (e.g., before and after tonsil operations and dental surgical procedures), as Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free supports the healing process;
• aphthae (painful inflamed areas of the mucous membrane of the gums, oral cavity, or tongue) and oral mucous membrane inflammations such as stomatitis (especially under dentures) and glossitis. In severe fungal infections of the oral mucous membrane (thrush), additional therapy with special antifungal agents may occasionally be necessary;
• eliminating bad breath when normal oral hygiene is not possible and bad breath is not caused by a stomach disorder;
• oral hygiene when normal oral hygiene (brushing teeth) is not possible, e.g., in severe general illnesses and patients in intensive care.

If you do not feel better or even worse after 3 weeks, contact your doctor.

How to use Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The following information applies unless your doctor has prescribed Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free differently. Please adhere to the instructions for use, otherwise Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free may not work properly! Do not exceed the stated dosage.

Children aged 6 years and over and adolescents
Use in children between 6 and 12 years should only be done on the advice of a doctor. There are no specific recommendations for dosage in children aged 6 years and over; the dosage will be determined by the doctor.
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the dosage for adolescents aged 12 years and over is the same as for adults.

Children under 6 years
The use and safety in children under 6 years have not yet been tested. Due to the risk of accidental swallowing, children under 6 years should not use Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free.

Elderly patients > 65 years
There are no specific dosage recommendations for elderly patients. The normal dose recommended for adults also applies to these groups of people, unless your doctor recommends otherwise.

How much and how often should you use Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free?
Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free should be used twice daily, preferably in the morning and evening after meals.

How and when should you use Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free?
For use in the oral cavity. At least 5 minutes before using Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free, teeth should be brushed and then the oral cavity thoroughly rinsed with water.

For each application, fill the dosing cap to the marked line (10 ml) and rinse in the mouth for 1 minute (draw vigorously through the interdental spaces) or gargle in the throat. Then spit it out - do not swallow or rinse afterwards. For denture stomatitis, clean the denture, place it in Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free for 15 minutes, and additionally rinse the mouth as described above.

Especially in the fight against inflammatory periodontopathies (infectiously caused diseases of the tooth bed), it is important to thoroughly clean the teeth before each mouth rinse to ensure better adhesion of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free to the tooth surface and thus effective inhibition of plaque growth.

In intensive care cases or for patients with manual disabilities where active mouth rinsing is not possible, plaque removal can be performed with Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free by brushing.

The solution is ready for use and should therefore be used undiluted.

How long should you use Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free?
Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free should be used for 3 weeks in addition to normal toothbrushing. In special cases, e.g., for disabled people, preventive treatment can also be carried out for a longer period.

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free is too strong or too weak.

What Chlorhexamed Forte alcohol-free contains
The active ingredient is: Chlorhexidine digluconate.

1 ml contains: 2 mg Chlorhexidine digluconate. A single dose of 10 ml contains 20 mg Chlorhexidine digluconate.

The other ingredients are:
Macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate, glycerol, sorbitol (E420), peppermint flavor, purified water.
