Chlorhexamed® Fluid 0.1%

Product Details & Mandatory Information

Surface-active oral and pharyngeal antiseptic
Further Product Information

What is Chlorhexamed Fluid and what is it used for?
Chlorhexamed Fluid is a 0.1% chlorhexidine solution. Chlorhexamed Fluid is a surface-active oral and pharyngeal antiseptic with a broad spectrum of action and long-term effect against bacterial pathogens, and somewhat weaker activity against fungal infections.

Rinsing with Chlorhexamed Fluid effectively treats bacterial infections in the mouth and throat.

Chlorhexamed Fluid is used for the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections in the mouth and throat and is indicated

  • to reduce and prevent bacterial dental plaque;
  • to treat simple to purulent gum inflammation (gingivitis);
  • to treat or prevent infectious periodontal diseases and their consequences (periodontopathies);
  • for tonsillitis, angina, lateral pharyngitis, pharyngeal inflammation (pharyngitis);
  • for injuries and before and after surgical interventions in the mouth and throat (e.g., before and after tonsil operations and dental surgical procedures), as Chlorhexamed Fluid improves the healing process;
  • for aphthous ulcers (painful inflamed areas of the mucous membrane of the gums, oral cavity, or tongue), oral mucositis such as stomatitis (especially under dentures) and inflammation of the tongue (glossitis). In severe fungal infections of the oral mucosa (thrush), additional therapy with specific antifungal agents may occasionally be necessary;
  • to eliminate bad breath when normal oral hygiene is not possible and the bad breath is not caused by a stomach disorder;
  • for oral hygiene when normal oral hygiene (brushing teeth) is not possible, e.g., in severe general illnesses and in patients in intensive care.

How to use Chlorhexamed Fluid?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or exactly as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The following information applies unless your dentist has prescribed Chlorhexamed Fluid differently. Please follow the instructions for use, otherwise Chlorhexamed Fluid may not work correctly!

The recommended dose is:

Adults:
Fill the dosing cap to the marking line (15 ml) for each application and rinse in the mouth for 1 minute (actively drawing it through the interdental spaces) or gargle in the throat. Then spit it out – do not swallow or rinse afterwards. In case of inflammation of the oral mucosa due to a denture, clean the denture, place it in Chlorhexamed Fluid for 15 to 20 minutes, and additionally rinse the mouth as
above.

Chlorhexamed Fluid should be used twice daily, preferably in the morning and evening after meals. The teeth should be brushed with regular toothpaste immediately before using
Chlorhexamed Fluid, after which the oral cavity must be thoroughly rinsed.

Especially when fighting inflammatory periodontal diseases (periodontopathies), it is important to thoroughly clean the teeth before each mouthwash to ensure better adhesion of Chlorhexamed Fluid to the tooth surface and thus effective inhibition of plaque growth.

In intensive care cases or for manually disabled patients where active mouth rinsing is not possible, plaque removal can be performed with Chlorhexamed Fluid using a brush.

The normal adult dose is suitable for elderly patients unless otherwise recommended by the dentist or doctor.

The solution is ready for use and should therefore be used undiluted.

Duration of use
Chlorhexamed Fluid should be used for 3 weeks in conjunction with mechanical cleaning methods. In special cases, e.g., for disabled persons, preventive treatment can also be carried out for a longer period.

Use in children and adolescents
Chlorhexamed Fluid should not be used in children under 6 years of age as the swallowing reflex is not yet fully developed. Children under 12 years of age should not use this product without instructions from a doctor or dentist.

The normal adult dose is suitable for adolescents aged 12 and over, unless otherwise recommended by the dentist or doctor.

If you have used more Chlorhexamed Fluid than you should
You can remove Chlorhexamed Fluid by rinsing with water. Chlorhexamed Fluid should not be swallowed (in large quantities and intentionally). The active ingredient chlorhexidine is only absorbed by the body in small amounts.

Should discomfort occur, seek medical attention immediately.

Due to its alcohol content, swallowing, especially by small children, can lead to alcohol poisoning and gastrointestinal disturbances.

If you forget to use Chlorhexamed Fluid
Do not use a double dose if you forgot the previous application.

If you stop using Chlorhexamed Fluid
In this case, no special measures are required.

If you have any further questions on the use of the medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
