How does a vaginal yeast infection develop?
Vaginal thrush is no reason for shame – many women are affected by a vaginal infection at least once in their lives. This is usually caused by yeasts of the genus Candida. In small quantities, these fungi are natural inhabitants of the woman's vagina. However, if they multiply excessively, this can cause a vaginal infection. Rarely, bacteria may also be present and cause a superimposed infection. The development of such a vaginal inflammation can be favored by:

• excessive intimate hygiene,
• a weakened immune system (e.g. due to stress or infections),
• diseases such as diabetes mellitus,
• thyroid dysfunctions,
• hormonal fluctuations (e.g. due to pregnancy),
• certain medications (such as antibiotics or corticosteroids), or
• infection through a partner.

The symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection are extremely unpleasant. In addition to severe itching and burning in the intimate area, the area of the vaginal opening can feel raw. Often there is also a white discharge with a grainy substance. The labia may be slightly swollen and red.

For affected women, only one thing matters: getting rid of vaginal thrush as quickly as possible. The Canesten® Clotrimazole Gyn Once Combi-Therapy helps with this: with this product, the fungal infection can be conveniently treated by yourself - with just one tablet! The proven active ingredient clotrimazole effectively fights the pathogens internally and thus contributes to rapid relief. The cream with the same active ingredient supports the therapy in the external vaginal area and should be applied one to three times daily for one to two weeks.

How is Canesten® Clotrimazole Gyn Once Combi applied?
The advantages of Canesten® Clotrimazole Gyn Once Combi clearly lie in its uncomplicated handling and the short treatment duration with only one vaginal tablet. The combination product contains both a tablet to fight internal infections and a cream for the external vaginal area. Unless otherwise prescribed, Canesten® Clotrimazole Gyn Once Combi for vaginal thrush should be used as follows:

• Insert the vaginal tablet into the vagina, preferably in the evening before going to bed, using the hygienic single-use applicator. One tablet is usually sufficient to combat the fungal infection. However, a second treatment can be added if necessary.
• The therapy is supplemented by the cream. It is best to apply this thinly to the labia and adjacent areas (up to the anus) one to three times daily for one to two weeks.

Provided it has been agreed with a doctor, there are no objections to its use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. However, follow the doctor's instructions and carry out the application without an applicator.

Important notes on application
Normally, the symptoms of the fungal infection significantly subside a few days after applying the vaginal tablet. If there is still no improvement after three to four days, please consult your doctor.

If you notice solid crumbles in your underwear, this may be due to a dry vagina. In such a case, it is possible that the tablet does not dissolve completely. If you tend to have vaginal dryness, you should use Canesten® Clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule for the treatment of vaginal inflammation.

If you have suffered from a vaginal yeast infection more than four times in the last twelve months, please seek medical advice. This also applies to the first occurrence of the disease and in case of the following symptoms:

• Fever (at least 38 degrees Celsius)
• Abdominal pain
• Back pain
• Foul-smelling vaginal discharge
• Nausea
• Vaginal bleeding
• Shoulder pain

Which active ingredient does Canesten® Clotrimazole Gyn Once Combi contain?
The Canesten® Clotrimazole Gyn Once Combi contains the well-tried active ingredient clotrimazole. This stops the growth and multiplication of fungal cells as well as some bacteria. This rapidly alleviates the symptoms. The special lactic acid additive supports the natural acidic vaginal environment and thus strengthens the natural germ barrier.

The vaginal tablet contains 500 milligrams of clotrimazole. Thus, the Canesten® Clotrimazole Gyn Once Combi delivers a high dose of active ingredient with just one application. A big plus is that a single vaginal tablet contains enough active ingredient to effectively combat the fungal infection. In addition to the vaginal tablet, the Canesten® Clotrimazole Gyn Once Combi therapy also consists of an aluminum tube with 20 grams of cream. One gram contains 10 milligrams of clotrimazole.
