Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Schüßler – The Physician Behind the Mineral Salts

Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Schüßler (1821–1898) was a German physician from Oldenburg. He initially worked as a homeopathic doctor, but became deeply involved with the then-new findings in cell research and mineral science.

What are Schüßler Salts?

Schüßler salts are mineral compounds in low dosages, usually in homeopathic potencies like D6 or D12. They are available as tablets, drops, or externally as ointments and creams.

The basic idea:
According to Schüßler, disturbances in the mineral balance of cells are the basis for many ailments. By regularly taking small amounts of these minerals, he aimed to support the "mineral balance" in the tissues.

Typical areas of application in experiential medicine include, for example:

• Support for fatigue, stress, and nervousness

• Accompanying treatment for muscle and joint complaints

• Skin and mucous membrane care (internal and external)

• General "constitutional care" in everyday life

Which number is used for what depends on the respective mineral salt (e.g., Calcium fluoratum, Ferrum phosphoricum, Silicea, etc.).

Schüßler Salts Today

Schüßler salts belong to complementary medicine and are primarily used due to a long tradition of application. The underlying theories date back to the 19th century; there is only limited scientific evidence for many of the claimed effects.

Many people use Schüßler salts:

• as gentle support in everyday life

• as a supplement to conventional medical therapies

• for longer-term support during stressful periods
