Lioton® 1000 IU/g Gel

Lioton® Gel is a medicine for external use containing the active ingredient heparin sodium. Heparin has a local anticoagulant (antithrombotic) effect and is used for certain swelling conditions and superficial phlebitis.

What is the product for?

Lioton® 1000 IU/g Gel is used as supportive treatment for:

• acute swelling after blunt injuries, e.g., bruises or sports injuries

• superficial phlebitis, provided it cannot be treated by compression

Application

Apply a gel strand approximately 10 cm long to the affected skin areas 2 to 3 times a day and gently massage it in until the gel is absorbed.

Recommended treatment duration:

• for acute swelling after blunt injuries: up to 10 days

• for superficial phlebitis: approximately 1 to 2 weeks

Use in children and adolescents is not recommended as there are insufficient studies for this age group.

Important Information

• Do not use if you are allergic to heparin or any of the other ingredients.

• With extensive use or simultaneous intake of anticoagulant medications, the tendency to bleed may be increased.

• Inform your doctor or pharmacist about other medications you are using or taking.

• For external use only.

Active Ingredient

1 g of gel contains 1,000 IU of heparin sodium.

Ingredients

Active ingredient: heparin sodium.

Other ingredients: purified water, ethanol 96%, carbomer, trolamine, neroli fragrance with linalool, D-limonene, geraniol, citral, citronellol and farnesol, lavandin oil with linalool, D-limonene, geraniol and coumarin, as well as methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E 218) and propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E 216) as preservatives.

Side Effects and Tolerability

Like all medicines, Lioton® Gel can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

In individual cases, allergic reactions with slight skin redness and itching may occur. In this case, discontinue use and inform a doctor.
