Why is protecting your dog from fleas important?
Fleas are active all year round and can be picked up by pets. A brief encounter with other animals or wild animals, such as hedgehogs, is enough to bring a flea infestation and associated health risks into the house. Combating a flea infestation usually takes 2-4 months.
- Visible adult fleas on the animal account for only 5% of the total flea population.
- The majority of the population (eggs, larvae, pupae) spreads almost invisibly and at a rapid pace in the living area.
- A flea can lay 30-50 eggs daily - these fall from the coat into the animal's environment. Larvae hatch from these, which moult several times and pupate until adult fleas finally hatch. This cycle takes about 3-4 weeks.
- So if you find 10 fleas, that means 300-500 eggs daily. This quickly leads to a plague.
How FRONTLINE COMBO® works:
The effect of FRONTLINE COMBO® is based on the combination of the active ingredients fipronil and (S)-methoprene.
Fipronil disrupts the nerve conduction of insects (e.g. fleas and biting lice) and arachnids (e.g. ticks), which leads to the death of the parasites. The active ingredient works in invertebrates, but not in mammals such as cats, dogs or humans. (S)-methoprene is an insecticide growth regulator (IGR) that inhibits the development of immature insect stages. (S)-methoprene penetrates the eggshell of newly laid flea eggs or is absorbed by adult fleas. In addition, the development of larvae and pupae is disrupted, so that the environment of the treated animal remains free of these stages.
How quickly does FRONTLINE COMBO® work?
Starting 2 days after application, fleas are killed within 24 hours, while ticks and biting lice are killed within 48 hours.
Application:
FRONTLINE COMBO® is a spot-on and particularly user-friendly:
- Take a pipette from the packaging.
- Hold the pipette tip upright.
- Tap lightly so that the liquid collects in the main part of the pipette.
- Break off the pipette tip at the perforated point.
- Part the animal's coat in the neck area until the skin is visible.
- Place the pipette tip directly on the skin and empty the entire contents.
The active ingredient spreads within 1-2 days from the spot between the shoulder blades, which is inaccessible to the animal, over the entire skin surface. Temporary changes in the coat (clumped/greasy hair) may occur at the application site, but these will disappear again.
How often should FRONTLINE COMBO® be used on your dog?
To ensure continuous effectiveness, there must always be enough active ingredient present. Therefore, the product should be used regularly. Parasites are active all year round – fleas are not only a problem in summer and autumn, but also thrive in heated homes in winter. We recommend treating pets, especially indoor animals, preventively all year round.
FRONTLINE COMBO® protects your dog for 8 weeks against fleas and their immature stages (eggs, larvae, pupae). The effect against ticks is 4 weeks. The recommended interval between two treatments should be at least 4 weeks.
Notes:
- Intensive bathing before or after treatment (within 48 hours) should be avoided as this may impair the distribution of the active ingredient. From 48 hours after treatment, FRONTLINE® products are waterproof.
- It is also important that all cats and dogs living in the household are treated regularly and at the same time. Untreated cats or dogs can - especially in the case of flea infestation - constantly re-infect other animals.
- In the event of a flea infestation, the environment must also be freed of fleas. Otherwise, the animal could be re-infected again and again. It is advisable to vacuum thoroughly daily (including corners and edges), wash textiles, blankets, toys, etc. at at least 60 degrees, and also use products for environmental treatment.
