Why should you particularly protect your dog from fleas?
Fleas are active year-round and can be brought into the home by pets. Even a brief encounter with other animals or wild animals like hedgehogs can lead to fleas settling in your home, which is associated with various health risks. Combating a flea infestation can typically take 2-4 months.
- Visible adult fleas on the animal account for only 5% of the total flea population.
- The rest of the flea population (eggs, larvae, pupae) spreads almost invisibly and very quickly in the home environment.
- A flea can lay 30-50 eggs daily – these fall from the fur into the animal's surroundings. These eggs hatch into larvae, which molt several times and pupate until adult fleas finally emerge. This cycle takes about 3-4 weeks.
- So, if you find 10 fleas, that means 300-500 eggs daily. Thus, an infestation can develop rapidly.
How FRONTLINE COMBO® works:
The efficacy of FRONTLINE COMBO® is based on the combination of the active ingredients fipronil and (S)-methoprene.
Fipronil disrupts the nerve transmission of insects (such as fleas and biting lice) and arachnids (such as ticks), leading to the death of the parasites. The active ingredient works on invertebrates but not on mammals like cats, dogs, or humans. (S)-methoprene is an insect growth regulator (IGR) that inhibits the development of immature insect stages. (S)-methoprene penetrates the eggshell of freshly laid flea eggs or is absorbed through the skin of adult fleas. In addition, the development of larvae and pupae is disrupted, so that the environment of the treated animal remains free of these stages.
How quickly does FRONTLINE COMBO® take effect?
Just 2 days after application, fleas are killed within 24 hours, while ticks and biting lice are killed within 48 hours.
Application:
FRONTLINE COMBO® is a spot-on product and particularly easy to use:
- Take one pipette from the package.
- Hold the pipette tip upright.
- Tap lightly to ensure the liquid collects in the main body of the pipette.
- Break off the tip of the pipette at the perforated section.
- Part the animal's fur in the neck area until the skin is visible.
- Place the pipette tip directly on the skin and empty the contents completely.
From the spot between the shoulder blades, which is inaccessible to the animal, the active ingredient spreads over the entire skin surface within 1-2 days. Temporary changes in the coat (clumped/greasy hair) may occur at the application site, but these will disappear.
How often should FRONTLINE COMBO® be applied to your dog?
To ensure continuous protection, there must always be sufficient active ingredient present. Therefore, the product should be applied regularly. Parasites are active all year round – fleas are not only a problem in summer and autumn, but also thrive in heated rooms in winter. Therefore, we recommend prophylactic treatment all year round, especially for indoor pets.
FRONTLINE COMBO® protects your dog from fleas and their immature stages (eggs, larvae, pupae) for 8 weeks. The effect against ticks lasts 4 weeks. The recommended interval between two applications should be at least 4 weeks.
Notes:
- Intensive bathing before or after treatment (within 48 hours) should be avoided, as this can impair the distribution of the active ingredient. From 48 hours after treatment, FRONTLINE® products are waterproof.
- It is also important that all cats and dogs living in the household are treated regularly and at the same time. Untreated animals can – especially in the case of flea infestation – re-infest other animals.
- In the event of a flea infestation, the environment must also be cleared of fleas. Otherwise, the animal can be re-infested repeatedly. You should vacuum thoroughly daily (including corners and edges), textiles, pet bedding, toys, etc. should be washed at at least 60 degrees, and additional products for environmental treatment should be used.
