What is ratioDolor Diclofenac Pain Relief Gel and what is it used for?
ratioDolor Diclofenac Pain Relief Gel contains the active ingredient diclofenac. This belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
ratioDolor Diclofenac Pain Relief Gel is used in adults and adolescents aged 14 and over.
Indications
For the local, symptomatic treatment of pain in:
- Acute strains
- Sprains
- Bruises resulting from blunt trauma
For adolescents aged 14 and over, the application is intended for short-term treatment.
How to use ratioDolor Diclofenac Pain Relief Gel?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Adults and adolescents aged 14 and over
ratioDolor Diclofenac Pain Relief Gel 2% is applied twice daily, preferably in the morning and evening.
Depending on the size of the affected area, a cherry-to-walnut-sized amount of gel is used. This corresponds to approximately 1 to 4 g of gel per application.
The maximum daily dose is 8 g of gel.
Elderly patients
No special dose adjustment is required. However, elderly patients should pay particular attention to possible side effects and, if necessary, consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Impaired kidney or liver function
No dose reduction is required.
Children and adolescents under 14 years
ratioDolor Diclofenac Pain Relief Gel must not be used in children under 14 years of age.
Application
The gel is for external use on the skin only.
Apply a thin layer of gel to the affected areas and rub it in lightly. Wash your hands after use, unless they are the areas being treated.
Duration of treatment
The duration of treatment depends on the symptoms and the underlying condition.
Without medical advice, ratioDolor Diclofenac Pain Relief Gel should not be used for longer than one week.
If symptoms do not improve after 3 to 5 days or worsen, a doctor should be consulted.
If you have used a larger quantity
An overdose is unlikely with external application, as only small amounts of the active ingredient are absorbed into the bloodstream. Excess gel can be washed off with water.
In case of accidental ingestion, a doctor should be contacted immediately.
If you have forgotten to use it
Do not apply a double amount to make up for a forgotten application.

Side effects
Like all medicines, ratioDolor Diclofenac Pain Relief Gel can have side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Occasionally, the following may occur:
- Skin redness
- Itching
- Rash
- Burning or irritation at the application site
- Dry or flaky skin
Rarely, allergic skin reactions may occur.
In very rare cases, severe hypersensitivity reactions, breathing difficulties, or photosensitivity reactions of the skin may occur.
Propylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, butylhydroxytoluene, and fragrances can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
If skin rashes, swelling, breathing difficulties, or other signs of a hypersensitivity reaction occur, discontinue use and seek medical advice.
