Tinnitus – Ringing/Buzzing in the Ears
Tinnitus is the perception of sounds in the ear or head, for which there is usually no corresponding external sound source. The sounds can occur unilaterally or bilaterally and can be temporary, recurrent, or persistent.
Tinnitus is not a standalone disease, but a symptom that can have different causes.
How can tinnitus manifest itself?
Ear noises are perceived very differently, for example as:
-
Whistling
-
Rushing
-
Humming
-
Buzzing
-
Hissing
-
Ringing
-
Cracking or Clicking
-
High- or low-frequency continuous tones
-
Pulsating or heartbeat-following sounds
The loudness and burden can fluctuate considerably.
How does tinnitus develop?
Tinnitus can be related to changes in the auditory system, from the inner ear to central auditory processing. Often, a hearing impairment exists simultaneously.
Possible causes and triggers are:
-
Noise exposure or acoustic trauma
-
Sudden hearing loss
-
Age-related hearing loss
-
Inner ear diseases
-
Meniere's disease
-
Middle ear diseases
-
Earwax plug
-
Certain medications with possible damage to the inner ear
-
Diseases of the auditory nerve
-
Temporomandibular joint or muscular problems
-
Stress can intensify the perception and burden of tinnitus
In the case of pulsatile tinnitus, vascular changes can also play a role.
Acute and Chronic Tinnitus
Ear noises can appear suddenly and disappear after a short time. If they persist for a longer period, it is referred to as chronic tinnitus.
For some people, the sound is barely perceived over time. Others suffer from sleep disturbances, concentration problems, or a significant reduction in quality of life.
Tinnitus and Sudden Hearing Loss
If tinnitus suddenly occurs together with a significant hearing impairment or hearing loss, sudden hearing loss or another acute disease of the auditory system must be considered.
A rapid ENT examination is important in this case.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Clarification includes an ENT examination and a hearing test (audiometry). Depending on the type of tinnitus, further examinations may be necessary.
Treatment depends on the underlying cause. In chronic tinnitus, the focus is particularly on managing the ear noise and reducing the burden it causes. In case of concomitant hearing loss, hearing aids can also reduce the perception of tinnitus.
Homeopathy according to Dr. Banerji
In homeopathy according to Dr. Banerji, specific homeopathic remedies and potencies are used for different disease and symptom pictures according to the Banerji protocols.
A reliable elimination or permanent reduction of tinnitus through homeopathic remedies is not scientifically proven. A necessary ENT diagnostic should therefore not be replaced or delayed.
Important Note
A suddenly newly occurring unilateral tinnitus with hearing loss, severe dizziness, or neurological symptoms should be medically clarified quickly.
Also, a pulsatile ear noise that occurs in the rhythm of the heartbeat should be medically examined.
