Uterine Prolapse – Prolapsed Uterus / Uterine Descent
A uterine prolapse (uterus prolapse) occurs when the uterus descends due to a weakening of the pelvic floor and supporting structures. In more severe cases, the uterus can protrude into the vagina or partially or completely out of the vaginal opening.
A milder form is referred to as uterine descent (descensus uteri). A prolapse belongs to the so-called pelvic organ prolapses.
How does uterine prolapse occur?
The pelvic floor consists of muscles, connective tissue, and ligaments that support the uterus, bladder, vagina, and rectum. If these structures are weakened or overstretched, the pelvic organs can descend.
Contributing factors include:
-
pregnancies and vaginal births
-
increasing age
-
hormonal changes after menopause
-
weak connective tissue
-
obesity
-
chronic constipation and straining
-
chronic cough
-
frequent heavy lifting
-
previous pelvic surgeries
What symptoms can occur?
Mild descents often cause no symptoms. In more severe cases, the following are possible:
-
pressure or heavy sensation in the lower abdomen and pelvis
-
foreign body sensation in the vagina
-
feeling that "something is pushing down"
-
visible or palpable bulge at the vaginal opening
-
pulling discomfort in the lower abdomen or lower back
-
discomfort during sexual intercourse
-
urination problems
-
involuntary urine leakage
-
difficulty with bowel movements
-
irritation or soreness of the prolapsed mucous membrane
Other forms of pelvic organ prolapse
In addition to the uterus, other pelvic organs can also descend. These include, for example, a cystocele with protrusion of the bladder towards the vagina or a rectocele with protrusion of the rectum.
Several forms can occur simultaneously.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Diagnosis is made through a gynecological examination. Treatment depends on the severity, symptoms, age, and individual needs.
Possible measures include:
-
targeted pelvic floor training
-
pelvic floor physiotherapy
-
pessary therapy
-
in women after menopause, possibly local estrogen treatment
-
various surgical procedures for severe symptoms
Not every uterine prolapse requires surgery. For milder forms, conservative measures may be sufficient.
Homeopathy according to Dr. Banerji
In homeopathy according to Dr. Banerji, specific homeopathic remedies and potencies are used according to the Banerji protocols for various disease and symptom patterns.
An anatomical regression of a pronounced uterine prolapse or a restoration of weakened supporting structures through homeopathic remedies is not scientifically proven. Necessary gynecological examination and treatment should therefore not be replaced or delayed.
Important Note
A newly occurring or increasing prolapse, difficulty urinating, bleeding, severe pain, or sore or discolored prolapsed tissue should be evaluated by a gynecologist.
