Sarcoidosis – inflammatory disease, see also pulmonary fibrosis

Sarcoidosis (Morbus Boeck) is an inflammatory disease in which small clusters of inflammatory cells, called granulomas, form in various organs.

The lungs and the lymph nodes in the chest are most commonly affected. However, the disease can also affect the skin, eyes, heart, nervous system, and other organs.

Sarcoidosis and Pulmonary Fibrosis

Sarcoidosis is not automatically pulmonary fibrosis. However, in some affected individuals, long-standing or chronic pulmonary sarcoidosis can lead to scarring and fibrotic changes in the lung tissue.

What symptoms can occur?

Many people initially have only minor or no symptoms. Possible symptoms include:

• dry cough

• shortness of breath during exertion

• chest pain or pressure in the chest

• fatigue and exhaustion

• fever

• weight loss

• swollen lymph nodes

• joint pain

With progressive lung involvement, shortness of breath and reduced physical capacity may increase.

Other organs can be affected

In addition to the lungs, other affected organs can include:

• Eyes: inflammation, pain, light sensitivity, or vision disturbances

• Skin: skin changes, for example, erythema nodosum

• Joints: pain and inflammation

• Heart: cardiac arrhythmias or impaired heart function

• Nervous system: neurological symptoms

• Calcium metabolism: elevated calcium levels in the blood or urine

Diagnosis

Depending on the findings, the following may be used for clarification:

• pulmonary function test

• chest X-ray

• high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT)

• blood tests

• bronchoscopy

• tissue biopsy

• examinations of other potentially affected organs

The detection of granulomas alone is not always sufficient. Other causes, particularly infections and other granulomatous diseases, must be ruled out.

Treatment

Not every case of sarcoidosis requires medication. In many affected individuals, the disease can regress spontaneously.

In cases of pronounced or progressive organ involvement, corticosteroids may be used. Depending on the course, other immunosuppressive or immunomodulating medications may be considered.

If pulmonary fibrosis has already developed, further treatment depends on the extent and functional impairment of the lungs.

Homeopathy according to Dr. Banerji

In homeopathy according to Dr. Banerji, specific homeopathic remedies and potencies are used for different disease and symptom patterns according to the Banerji protocols.

Reliable control of granuloma formation, prevention of organ involvement, or regression of already developed fibrotic changes in the lungs through homeopathic remedies is not scientifically proven. Therefore, necessary pneumological or specialist medical treatment should not be replaced or delayed.

Important note

In cases of increasing shortness of breath, chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, fainting, new-onset vision disturbances, or neurological symptoms, sarcoidosis should be promptly investigated by a specialist.
