Pulmonary Fibrosis and Sarcoidosis – Interstitial Lung Diseases "Support" Homeopathy according to Dr. Banerji

Pulmonary Fibrosis and Sarcoidosis – Interstitial Lung Diseases

Pulmonary fibrosis is a pathological increase and scarring of connective tissue in the lungs. This makes the lung tissue increasingly stiffer, and the exchange of oxygen between the alveoli and the blood can be impaired.

Sarcoidosis (Boeck's disease), on the other hand, is an inflammatory disease in which small inflammatory cell clusters, known as granulomas, form in various organs. The lungs and lymph nodes in the chest are particularly often affected.

Sarcoidosis is not automatically pulmonary fibrosis. However, in some affected individuals, long-standing pulmonary sarcoidosis can lead to fibrotic changes and scarring of the lungs.

How does pulmonary fibrosis develop?

Pulmonary fibrosis can have various causes. These include:

  • idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)

  • sarcoidosis

  • autoimmune and rheumatic diseases

  • long-term exposure to certain dusts and pollutants

  • certain medications

  • radiation therapy in the chest area

  • chronic hypersensitivity reactions of the lungs

  • other interstitial lung diseases

In some forms, the exact cause remains unknown.

What happens in pulmonary fibrosis?

Due to increasing scarring, the lungs lose elasticity. They expand less well during inhalation, and the passage of oxygen from the alveoli into the blood is hampered.

As the disease progresses, this can lead to oxygen deficiency.

Typical symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis

Possible symptoms include:

  • increasing shortness of breath during exertion

  • later shortness of breath even at rest

  • dry, irritating cough

  • reduced physical capacity

  • fatigue and exhaustion

  • weight loss in advanced disease

  • in cases of long-term oxygen deficiency, possibly clubbed fingers and watch-glass nails

Sarcoidosis of the Lung

In sarcoidosis, in addition to the lungs, lymph nodes, skin, eyes, heart, nervous system, and other organs can also be affected.

Possible symptoms of pulmonary sarcoidosis include:

  • dry cough

  • shortness of breath

  • pain or pressure in the chest

  • fatigue

  • fever

  • weight loss

  • swollen lymph nodes

However, many affected individuals experience only mild or no symptoms at all.

Course of Sarcoidosis

The course of sarcoidosis can vary greatly. In many affected individuals, the inflammation resolves spontaneously or remains stable.

However, in some patients, chronic sarcoidosis develops, which can permanently damage lung tissue and lead to pulmonary fibrosis.

Diagnosis

Depending on suspicion, the following may be performed for clarification:

  • lung function test

  • oxygen saturation measurement

  • high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT)

  • blood tests

  • bronchoscopy

  • examination of tissue samples (biopsy)

  • in cases of sarcoidosis, possibly examinations of other organs

If sarcoidosis is suspected, other diseases, particularly certain infections and other granulomatous diseases, must also be ruled out.

Treatment

Treatment depends on the cause, severity, and course.

For certain pulmonary fibroses, antifibrotic drugs can be used to slow the progression of the disease.

Sarcoidosis does not always require drug therapy. In cases of more severe organ involvement, corticosteroids and, if necessary, other immunosuppressive drugs are often used.

In advanced pulmonary fibrosis, oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, and in selected cases, lung transplantation may be necessary.

Homeopathy according to Dr. Banerji

In homeopathy according to Dr. Banerji, specific homeopathic remedies and potencies are used for different disease and symptom patterns according to the Banerji protocols.

The regression of existing fibrotic scarring of the lungs or reliable control of inflammatory organ involvement in sarcoidosis through homeopathic remedies is not scientifically proven. Therefore, necessary pneumological or specialist medical treatment should not be replaced or delayed.

Important Note

Rapidly increasing shortness of breath, shortness of breath at rest, chest pain, bluish lips, or a significant deterioration in general condition must be medically clarified quickly.

In sarcoidosis, new onset visual disturbances, cardiac arrhythmias, fainting, or neurological symptoms should also be medically clarified promptly.
