Sudden Hearing Loss and Progressive Hearing Impairment – Sudden or Progressive Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Sudden hearing loss is a sudden, usually unilateral sensorineural hearing loss that develops rapidly and cannot be explained by an obvious cause such as earwax blockage or middle ear infection.

This is distinct from gradual, progressive hearing loss or deafness, which can develop over months or years and have various causes.

How does sudden hearing loss occur?
