Glossitis - Inflammation of the tongue / Consider vitamin B deficiency "Support" Homeopathy according to Dr. Banerji

Glossitis – Inflammation of the Tongue / Consider Vitamin B Deficiency

Glossitis is an inflammation of the tongue. The tongue may be red, swollen, smooth, sensitive, or painful. Burning tongue, altered taste, and discomfort while eating and drinking are common.

When glossitis is present, a possible vitamin B deficiency should be particularly considered. Iron deficiency, infections, and especially candidiasis (fungal infection) can also cause similar symptoms.

Consider Vitamin B Deficiency

Various B vitamins are important for the normal function and regeneration of the oral and tongue mucous membranes. Particularly relevant are:

  • Vitamin B12

  • Folic acid (Vitamin B9)

  • Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)

  • Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

  • Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)

A deficiency can manifest as a smooth, red, or burning tongue, cracked corners of the mouth, and changes in the oral mucous membrane, among other symptoms.

Particularly with a vitamin B12 deficiency, fatigue, anemia, and neurological symptoms such as tingling or numbness may also occur.

Other Possible Causes of Glossitis

In addition to vitamin B deficiency, other possibilities include:

  • Iron deficiency and anemia

  • Oral candidiasis caused by Candida

  • Bacterial or viral infections

  • Dry mouth

  • Mechanical or chemical irritation

  • Certain medications

  • Gastrointestinal diseases with reduced absorption of vitamins and minerals

Candidiasis of the Tongue

Oral candidiasis (oral thrush) can lead to burning, redness, and whitish coatings on the tongue and oral mucous membranes. It occurs more frequently, among other reasons, after antibiotic treatments, with inhaled corticosteroids, diabetes, or weakened immune systems.

Diagnosis and Treatment

For recurrent or persistent glossitis, a laboratory examination may be useful. In particular, Vitamin B12, folic acid, blood count, and iron status should be considered.

A proven vitamin B deficiency should be specifically corrected, and its cause should be sought. A confirmed candidiasis may require treatment with an antifungal agent.

Homeopathy according to Dr. Banerji

In homeopathy according to Dr. Banerji, specific homeopathic remedies and potencies are used according to the Banerji Protocols for various disease and symptom patterns.

Homeopathic treatment cannot replace an existing vitamin B deficiency. Similarly, the reliable elimination of a Candida infection through homeopathic remedies is not scientifically proven.

Important Note

In cases of glossitis, a vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency, as well as an iron deficiency, should be ruled out. Persistent changes, sores, indurations, or bleeding of the tongue should be examined by a doctor or dentist.
