Medicine for loosening scales and crusts in scalp conditions

Dosage form: Gel for topical application to the scalp

Area of application: For loosening crusts and scales in scalp conditions such as psoriasis of the hairy scalp, seborrheic eczema, and severe forms of dandruff.

Suitable for: Adults, adolescents, and children aged 12 and over

Active ingredient: Salicylic acid 10%

Squamasol® Gel is a keratolytic (peeling agent) for the treatment of severely scaling scalp conditions. The salicylic acid it contains helps to detach scales and crusts from the scalp.

The gel is particularly suitable for:

• Psoriasis of the hairy scalp

• Seborrheic, scaly eczema of the scalp

• Severe dandruff

• Firmly adhering scales and crusts

Application and Dosage

Adults, adolescents, and children aged 12 and over should apply Squamasol® Gel 2 to 3 times a week, unless otherwise prescribed.

Approximately 10 g of gel is sufficient for treating the entire scalp. If only individual areas are affected, less gel should be applied specifically to those areas.

In cases of very severe scaling and crust formation, treatment can be started with daily application for a short period.

Application time: at least 10 minutes, up to a maximum of 30 minutes for severe scaling.

The treatment should be carried out as a course over 3 to 4 weeks. To maintain the treatment success, application can then be reduced to once a week or every 14 days.

For dry or sensitive scalp, the application time should be limited to approximately 10 minutes, and the frequency of application should be reduced if necessary.

How to use Squamasol® Gel

Apply a thin layer of the gel to dry or slightly damp scalp. If necessary, part the hair beforehand and then gently massage in the gel.

After application, rinse hands thoroughly. After the intended application time, rinse the gel thoroughly from hair and scalp with water. The wash water should not get into the eyes.

An additional hair wash is usually not necessary. If required, a mild shampoo can be used.

Maximum daily dose

The maximum daily dose for adults is 20 g of Squamasol® Gel, corresponding to 2 g of salicylic acid. This maximum dose should not be used for longer than one week.

Composition

100 g of gel contain:

Active ingredient:
10.0 g salicylic acid

Other ingredients:
Macrogolglycerol cocoate, Macrogolglycerol ricinoleate, Macrogol-5-oleyl ether, Sodium dodecyl sulfate, yellow wax, castor oil, glycerol monostearate 40–55, propylene glycol, palmitoyl ascorbic acid, butylhydroxytoluene (E 321), citric acid and rosemary perfume oil.

Important notes

Do not get into eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after use. Local irritation may occur with sensitive or dry scalp.
