Nicotine Patches to Support Smoking Cessation from Nicorette®

The Nicorette® TX 10 mg patch helps adult smokers in the final phase of their smoking cessation. The transdermal patch continuously releases nicotine over a period of approximately 16 hours and can help reduce withdrawal symptoms and the craving for cigarettes during withdrawal.

Area of Application

The Nicorette® TX 10 mg patch is a medication for supporting smoking cessation. It is used to treat tobacco addiction and can help alleviate withdrawal symptoms during nicotine withdrawal. Additional counseling and supportive measures can increase the chances of success in smoking cessation.

How it Works

The Nicorette® TX patch is applied to a clean, dry, and hairless area of skin in the morning and releases a controlled amount of nicotine throughout the day. The patch is removed in the evening. Application during waking hours for approximately 16 hours is usually sufficient to effectively reduce withdrawal symptoms.

The continuous release of nicotine achieves a relatively stable nicotine level in the body. The patch is particularly suitable for smokers with regular smoking habits.

Application and Dosage

The Nicorette® TX patch is available in three different dosages: 25 mg, 15 mg, and 10 mg.

• Smokers who consume more than 20 cigarettes per day usually start with the 25 mg patch for 8 weeks. After that, they switch to the 15 mg patch for 2 weeks, and then to the 10 mg patch for another 2 weeks.

• Smokers consuming less than 20 cigarettes daily typically start with the 15 mg patch for 8 weeks and then switch to the 10 mg patch for the next 4 weeks.

Cessation occurs gradually by reducing nicotine intake. The total treatment duration is usually around three months.

Side Effects

As with all medicines, the Nicorette® TX patch can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them.

Skin reactions at the application site, such as redness, itching, or burning, are common. Headaches, dizziness, sleep disturbances, nausea, or palpitations are also possible. Many of these symptoms can also be related to nicotine withdrawal itself.
