Otrivin® 0.05% Nasal Spray without Preservatives

For decongestion of the nasal mucous membrane in children aged 2 to 12 years

Otrivin® 0.05% contains xylometazoline and has a decongestant effect on the nasal mucous membrane. The effect begins within approximately 2 minutes and can last up to 12 hours. The nasal spray is free of preservatives.

Areas of Application

For the symptomatic treatment of a blocked nose due to colds, hay fever, allergic rhinitis, and sinusitis. In case of otitis media, it can support the decongestion of the mucous membrane in the nasopharyngeal area.

Recommended Use

Children aged 2 to 12 years: Up to 3 times a day, 1 spray into each nostril. There should be an interval of at least 8 hours between applications. The last application should preferably be before bedtime.

For children aged 2 to 6 years, use only under medical supervision.

Clean the nose before use. Before first use, press the pump 4 times.

Duration of Use

Do not use for more than 7 days. After one week of use, a break of several days should be taken.

Active Ingredients / Composition

1 ml solution contains:

• 0.5 mg Xylometazoline hydrochloride

1 spray corresponds to 0.07 ml solution.

Other ingredients: Sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium chloride, sodium edetate dihydrate, and purified water.

Side Effects

Headaches, burning at the application site, dry nasal and throat mucous membranes, sneezing, and nausea can occur frequently.

Occasionally, nosebleeds or increased mucous membrane swelling after the effect wears off can occur. Rarely, palpitations, accelerated pulse, or increased blood pressure are possible, among others.

Important Information

Not suitable for children under 2 years. For children aged 2 to 6 years, use only under medical supervision.

Do not use for more than 7 days. Prolonged or excessive use of decongestant nasal sprays can lead to a renewed or chronic swelling of the nasal mucous membrane.

Do not spray into eyes or mouth. For hygienic reasons, the nasal spray should only be used by one person.

Do not store above 25 °C and keep out of reach of children.

In case of signs of a severe allergic reaction, especially shortness of breath or facial swelling, immediate medical attention is required.
