ColoSan® is a traditional veterinary medicinal product in the form of an oral solution for horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits, and dogs.

It is traditionally used as a mild-acting veterinary medicinal product for the supportive treatment of feed-related flatulence and gastrointestinal disorders.

ColoSan® contains a combination of essential oils of star anise, bitter fennel, caraway, and Chinese cinnamon, as well as sulfur in refined linseed oil.

Indications for use

Traditionally used as a mild-acting veterinary medicinal product for the supportive treatment of:

• feed-related flatulence

• gastrointestinal disorders

• Approved traditional veterinary medicinal product

• For horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits, and dogs

• With essential oils of star anise, bitter fennel, caraway, and Chinese cinnamon

• With sulfur and refined linseed oil

• Solution for direct oral administration

Dosage and administration

For oral administration.

Single dose according to body weight:

• Animals under 10 kg: 3 ml per 10 kg of body weight

• Animals from 10–100 kg: 1 ml per 10 kg of body weight

• Animals from 100–600 kg: 0.3 ml per 10 kg of body weight

Dosage examples:

• 1 kg rabbit: 0.3 ml

• 75 kg foal: 7.5 ml

• 500 kg horse: 15 ml

Administer the veterinary medicinal product undiluted into the cheek pouch.

If necessary, the administration can be repeated after ½ to 2 hours.

Drinking water should be made available to the animal approximately ½ hour after administration.

In cases of foamy fermentation in cattle, sheep, and goats, the veterinary medicinal product may be administered together with approx. 0.25–1 liter of edible oil, in accordance with the package leaflet.

Contraindications

Do not use in cases of known hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients or other ingredients, especially to cinnamon or fennel oil.

Important information

In the event of severe, sudden, or persistent gastrointestinal symptoms, veterinary advice should be sought immediately.

In particular, colic in horses and severe bloating can represent a veterinary emergency. In these cases, the use of ColoSan® does not replace veterinary examination and treatment.

Composition

10 g or 10.5 ml of solution contain:

Active ingredients:

• Star anise oil: 0.10 g

• Bitter fennel oil: 0.10 g

• Caraway oil: 0.10 g

• Chinese cinnamon oil: 0.17 g

• Sulfur: 0.25 g

Other ingredient:

• Refined linseed oil

Side effects and tolerability

If side effects or signs of intolerance occur, administration should be stopped and veterinary advice should be sought.

Do not use in cases of known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or other ingredients contained.
