FRONTLINE COMBO® is a veterinary medicine for protecting dogs against fleas, ticks, and biting lice. The combination of fipronil and (S)-methoprene combats adult parasites while simultaneously inhibiting the development of flea eggs, larvae, and pupae.

Intended use

This version of FRONTLINE COMBO® with 67 mg fipronil and 60.3 mg (S)-methoprene is intended for dogs weighing over 2 to 10 kg.

The spot-on is used for flea infestations alone or in combination with tick and/or biting lice infestations.

It can be used on dogs from 8 weeks of age and weighing at least 2 kg, as well as on pregnant and lactating bitches.

Properties and effect

FRONTLINE COMBO® combines two active ingredients:

• Fipronil acts against fleas, ticks, and biting lice.

• (S)-methoprene, as an insect growth regulator, inhibits the development of flea eggs, larvae, and pupae.

Why is controlling immature flea stages important?

Adult fleas on the dog make up only a small part of the total flea population. The much larger proportion consists of eggs, larvae, and pupae that can be found in the animal's environment.

(S)-methoprene inhibits the development of these immature flea stages, thereby supplementing the effect of fipronil against adult parasites.

How quickly does FRONTLINE COMBO® work?

Fleas are killed within 24 hours, ticks and biting lice within 48 hours.

After application, the active ingredient spreads over the dog's skin surface within approximately 1 to 2 days.

Application

FRONTLINE COMBO® is applied as a spot-on directly to the skin:

1. Remove the pipette from the packaging and hold it upright.

2. Tap lightly to ensure the liquid collects in the main body.

3. Snap off the tip of the pipette at the designated mark.

4. Part the hair between the shoulder blades until the skin is visible.

5. Place the pipette tip directly onto the skin and empty the entire contents.

Temporarily matted or greasy-appearing hair may occur at the application site. These changes usually disappear again.

How often should it be used?

FRONTLINE COMBO® protects against fleas and their immature developmental stages for up to 8 weeks. The effect against ticks lasts for up to 4 weeks.

There should be at least 4 weeks between two applications.

Instructions for use and environment

Intensive bathing should be avoided within 48 hours before or after treatment. From 48 hours after application, FRONTLINE® products are water-resistant.

In the event of a flea infestation, all suitable dogs and cats in the household should be treated accordingly. Additionally, the environment should be cleaned regularly. Thorough vacuuming and washing suitable textiles and bedding at at least 60 °C can support flea control.

Important information

FRONTLINE COMBO® Spot-on for dogs is available in different dosages depending on body weight:

• S: Dogs over 2 to 10 kg

• M: Dogs over 10 to 20 kg

• L: Dogs over 20 to 40 kg

• XL: Dogs over 40 kg

This version with 67 mg fipronil and 60.3 mg (S)-methoprene is intended for dogs over 2 to 10 kg.

Side effects and tolerability

Like all veterinary medicines, FRONTLINE COMBO® can cause side effects.

Temporary changes to the coat, such as matted or greasy hair, may occur at the application site.
