Why should you particularly protect your cat from fleas?
Fleas are active all year round and are picked up by pets in nature. A brief encounter with other animals or wild animals such as hedgehogs is enough to bring a flea infestation, associated with various health risks, into the house. Treating a flea infestation usually takes 2-4 months.
- Adult fleas visible on the animal account for only 5% of the total flea population.
- The rest of the population (eggs, larvae, pupae) spreads almost invisibly and rapidly in the home environment.
- A flea can lay 30-50 eggs daily - these fall from the coat into the animal's environment. From these, larvae hatch, which molt several times and pupate until adult fleas finally hatch. This cycle takes approx. 3-4 weeks.
- So if you find 10 fleas - that means 300-500 eggs per day. This quickly leads to an infestation.
How FRONTLINE COMBO® works:
The effect of FRONTLINE COMBO® is based on the combination of the active ingredients fipronil and (S)-methoprene.
Fipronil disrupts the nerve impulse transmission of insects (e.g., fleas and biting lice) and arachnids (e.g., ticks), causing the parasites to die. The active ingredient works on invertebrates, but not on mammals such as cats, dogs, or humans. (S)-methoprene is an insect growth regulator (IGR) that inhibits the development of immature stages of insects. (S)-methoprene penetrates the eggshell of freshly laid flea eggs or is absorbed through the cuticle of adult fleas. In addition, the development of larvae and pupae is disrupted, so that the environment of the treated animal can be kept free of these stages.
How quickly does FRONTLINE COMBO® take effect?
Starting 2 days after treatment, fleas are killed within 24 hours, and ticks and biting lice within 48 hours.
Application:
FRONTLINE COMBO® is a spot-on and particularly easy to use:
- Remove one pipette from the box.
- Hold the pipette upright.
- Tap lightly so that the liquid collects completely in the main part of the pipette.
- Break off the tip of the pipette at the perforated point.
- Part the animal's fur in the neck region until the skin is visible.
- Place the pipette tip directly on the skin and empty the entire liquid contents onto the skin.
From the area between the shoulder blades, inaccessible to the animal, the active ingredient spreads over the entire skin surface within 1-2 days. Temporary coat changes (sticky/greasy hair) may occur at the application site - but these disappear again after 24 hours.
Which product you should use for your cat:
FRONTLINE COMBO® Spot On for cats is available in packs of 3 or 6.
ATTENTION: Do not use on rabbits, as intolerances, potentially even fatal, may occur.
How often should Frontline Combo be used on your cat?
To ensure efficacy without gaps in protection, a sufficient amount of active ingredient must always be present. Therefore, the product should be used regularly. Parasites are active all year round - for example, fleas are not only an issue in summer and autumn - they also feel very comfortable in heated homes in winter. We therefore recommend treating indoor animals preventatively all year round.
FRONTLINE COMBO® protects your cat against adult fleas for 4 weeks. The development-inhibiting effect against immature stages (eggs, larvae, pupae) lasts for 6 weeks. The effect against ticks lasts for 2 weeks. The recommended interval between two treatments should be at least 4 weeks.
Notes:
- Intensive bathing before or after treatment (within 48 hours) should be avoided, as this can impair the distribution of the active ingredient. Starting 48 hours after treatment, FRONTLINE® products are waterproof.
- It is also important that all cats and dogs living in the household are treated regularly and simultaneously. Untreated cats or dogs can - especially in case of flea infestation - constantly re-infect the others.
- In case of a flea infestation, the environment must also be freed from fleas. Otherwise, the animal can be re-infested again and again. You should vacuum daily and very thoroughly (including corners and edges), wash textiles, pet blankets, toys, etc. at a minimum of 60 degrees, and additionally use products for environmental treatment.
