Gargle solution for combating bacterial pathogens in the event of infections in the mouth and throat area.

HEXORAL® contains the active ingredient hexetidine. Hexetidine is effective against a variety of bacteria that can cause infections in the mouth and throat. Furthermore, HEXORAL® is effective against fungal infections in the mouth and throat area, especially thrush.

What is HEXORAL® used for?

HEXORAL® is suitable for short-term supportive treatment for:

• Inflammations in the mouth and throat area without fever

• Sore throat with mild colds not accompanied by fever

• Gum inflammation

• Bleeding gums

• Pressure sores in wearers of dentures

• Vincent's angina (trench mouth)

• Minor injuries in the mouth area

Use under medical supervision

For the following conditions and complaints, especially if they are potentially accompanied by fever, HEXORAL® should only be used under medical supervision:

• Tonsillitis

• Inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa

• Angina

• Inflammation of the gums or oral mucosa

Aphthae – painful inflamed areas on the gums, in the oral cavity, or on the tongue

• Preventive treatment and therapy of infections after surgical procedures, for example after tooth extractions or tonsillectomies

• Fungal infections in the mouth and throat area, especially thrush

• Bad breath in the case of severe diseases in the mouth and throat area, for example in tumor diseases

• Oral hygiene in the case of severe general illnesses

Dosage form

Solution for rinsing the oral cavity or for gargling.

Application and dosage

Always use this medicinal product exactly as described in the package leaflet or as agreed with your doctor, dentist, or pharmacist. Consult your doctor, dentist, or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Adults and children aged 6 and over

Adults and children aged 6 and over who are able to gargle without swallowing the solution use HEXORAL® in the morning and evening.

Rinse the oral cavity or gargle in the throat with 1 tablespoon of undiluted HEXORAL® solution for about ½ minute.

For individual inflamed areas, the solution can also be applied directly to the affected areas with a cotton swab or pad.

Do not swallow the solution.

Children from 3 to 6 years

Children aged 3 to 6 years may only be treated with HEXORAL® on medical advice.

Dab the affected areas with a cotton swab soaked in HEXORAL® in the morning and evening after meals. Do not wipe or rub.

Elderly patients

There are no special dosage recommendations for elderly patients. Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor or dentist, the dosage for adults applies.

Notes on correct application

HEXORAL® is generally used undiluted after meals.

To ensure effectiveness, you should not eat or drink anything in the following minutes after application.

HEXORAL® is intended exclusively for use in the mouth and throat area and must not be swallowed. The medicinal product should therefore only be used by persons who can sufficiently control their swallowing reflex and who can spit out the solution after rinsing or gargling.

HEXORAL® must always be used undiluted.

Duration of application

HEXORAL® should not be used for longer than 10 days without medical or dental consultation.

The total duration of treatment is determined by the attending doctor or dentist.

Should complaints persist after 15 days of treatment, a doctor or dentist must be consulted again.

Important notes

• HEXORAL® is intended exclusively for use in the mouth and throat area.

• The solution must not be swallowed.

• Use only on persons who can reliably spit out the solution after rinsing or gargling.

• Always use HEXORAL® undiluted.

• Children from 3 to 6 years may only be treated on medical advice.

• Do not use for longer than 10 days without medical or dental consultation.

• In the case of febrile illnesses or the aforementioned conditions where fever can occur, only use under medical supervision.

• According to the available product information, HEXORAL® must not be combined with other medicinal products.

Active ingredient

100 ml of solution contains 100.0 mg of hexetidine.

This corresponds to a concentration of 0.1% hexetidine.

Ingredients

Active ingredient: hexetidine.

Other ingredients: purified water, ethanol 96%, polysorbate 60, citric acid monohydrate, sodium saccharin (22.0 mg), levomenthol, azorubine (E 122), eucalyptus oil, sodium calcium edetate, and sodium hydroxide.

Side effects / Tolerability

Like all medicinal products, HEXORAL® can have side effects, although not everyone gets them.

If hypersensitivity reactions or other undesirable complaints occur, use should be discontinued and medical or pharmaceutical advice should be sought.
