Belladonna, also known as deadly nightshade, is a perennial plant belonging to the nightshade family (Solanaceae). Originally found in Europe, North Africa, and West Asia, it is now also found in other regions of the world. The plant is characterized by its distinctive, velvety leaves and bell-shaped, violet flowers.

The use of Belladonna dates back to antiquity. It was not only used in traditional medicine but also found application in cosmetics – particularly, women used the juice of the berries to dilate pupils and for beautification.
