Azelastin COMOD® Augentropfen – Stark gegen Heuschnupfen mit Azelastin!
Product details & statutory information
For use in the eye for allergic conjunctivitis.
What is it for?
Azelastin COMOD® contains the active ingredient azelastine hydrochloride. This belongs to a group of medicines known as anti-allergic agents (antihistamines).
Antihistamines work by protecting against the effects of substances such as histamine, which the body releases during an allergic reaction. Azelastine has also proven effective against inflammation of the eye.
Azelastin COMOD® can be used to treat and prevent eye conditions associated with hay fever. This so-called seasonal allergic conjunctivitis can be treated in adults and children aged 4 years and older.
Azelastin COMOD® can also be used to treat eye conditions caused by allergies to substances such as house dust mites or animal hair. For this non-seasonal or year-round allergic conjunctivitis, Azelastin COMOD® is intended for adults and children aged 12 years and older.
Properties and effect
The active ingredient azelastine hydrochloride has an anti-allergic and antihistamine effect. It reduces the effect of histamine, which plays an important role in allergic reactions.
This can relieve typical symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis such as red, itchy, or watery eyes.
An improvement in the symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis should be noticeable after about 15 to 30 minutes.
Azelastin COMOD® must only be dropped into the eyes.
Use and dosage
Always use Azelastin COMOD® exactly as discussed with your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
For eye conditions caused by hay fever, i.e., seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, the following applies to adults and children aged 4 years and older:
- The usual dose is 1 drop in each eye in the morning and evening.
If you expect contact with pollen, the usual dose of Azelastin COMOD® can be used preventively before you leave the house.
For eye conditions caused by other allergies, such as house dust mites or animal hair, i.e., non-seasonal or year-round allergic conjunctivitis, the following applies to adults and children aged 12 years and older:
- The usual dose is 1 drop in each eye in the morning and evening.
In case of severe symptoms, your doctor may increase the dose to 1 drop in each eye up to four times a day.
Correct application of the eye drops
Wash your hands thoroughly before use.
Take a clean paper tissue and gently remove excess tear fluid from the lower eyelid margin.
Remove the cap before each use.
Before using Azelastin COMOD® for the first time, hold the bottle with the dropper tip vertically downwards and press the bottom of the bottle until the first drop appears at the tip. The bottle is then ready for further use.
Hold the bottle with the dropper tip facing down. Place your thumb on the shoulder of the bottle and your other fingers on the bottom.
Support the hand holding the COMOD® bottle with your free hand.
Tilt your head back slightly and pull the lower eyelid slightly away from the eye with your free hand. Then press quickly and firmly in the middle of the bottle bottom. This activates the mechanism for dispensing one drop.
Due to the special valve technology of the COMOD® system, the size and speed of the drop remain the same even with firm pressure on the bottle bottom.
Avoid contact between the dropper tip and the eye or facial skin during application.
After application, close your eyes slowly to allow the liquid to spread evenly over the surface of the eye.
Then release the lower eyelid and press gently against the bridge of the nose from the inner corner of the eye. While holding your finger against your nose, blink slowly several times so that the drop spreads across the eye surface.
Carefully remove any excess eye drops.
After use, immediately close the dropper tip carefully with the cap. Make sure that the dropper tip is dry.
Duration of use
If possible, you should use Azelastin COMOD® regularly until your symptoms have disappeared.
Azelastin COMOD® must not be used for longer than 6 weeks.
If you have used more than you should
It is unlikely that problems will arise from putting too large a quantity of Azelastin COMOD® into the eye.
If you are worried, contact your doctor.
If you have accidentally swallowed Azelastin COMOD®, contact your doctor or the nearest hospital emergency department as soon as possible.
If you forget to use it
Use the eye drops as soon as you remember and then continue with the next application at the usual time.
Do not use a double dose if you have forgotten the previous application.
If you stop the application
If you interrupt the use of Azelastin COMOD®, your symptoms may reappear.
If you have any further questions about the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
