How does Strepsils® Throat Spray work?​

Strepsils® Spray 8.75 mg/dose is a medicine for the symptomatic relief of sore throats. It contains a low dose (8.75 mg) of flurbiprofen. This non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) inhibits a synthesis step required for the production of the messenger substance prostaglandin. Thus, the throat spray acts directly against the inflammation underlying the sore throat.

Can I also use Strepsils® Spray 8.75 mg/dose if I am taking an antibiotic?​

​Yes, it is possible to take Strepsils® Spray 8.75 mg/dose together with an antibiotic that is typically prescribed for throat infections. However, antibiotics do not provide sufficient relief from sore throats, especially not in the first two days when the symptoms are most severe. The additional use of Strepsils® Spray 8.75 mg/dose can therefore help to relieve the symptoms.

Do you have to observe strict bed rest for a sore throat?​

Strict bed rest is not necessary for a sore throat. On the contrary: lying in bed all day can even delay recovery. Get up occasionally and take a hot shower, for example. The steam can relieve the burning in your throat. Moderate activities, such as light yoga or stretching exercises, may even support recovery from a sore throat.​
